I have an appointment with Giulio Braga, which makes me a nod from the entrance of the cafeteria …
I can see him very well, while I’m parking my car.
Walking toward him, I’m still thinking at his tracks I’ve heard many times, the fragments of interviews and comments about him, and I connect for the first time the meaning of the words of a mutual friend who called Giulio a versatile artist in the approach difficult to “frame” in a category, “chameleon” in the evolution of the appearance ….
And then … there is the date of birth …
So … the question I wanted to ask first to Giulio Braga was,
“…but where have you been all these years, why could you not have ever made you get known, or see? ”
Giulio flashes a smile, and after a deep sigh he says:
“I’ve always been here …!”
Giulio was born in Milan January 17, 1964, he grows in the Milan suburbs, but also the houses in Milan and elegant mansions of Brianza.
Musically speaking, with the invaluable opportunity to begin to learn English in seven years, Giulio was deeply influenced by all the British influences: Beatles, Procol Harum, Ultravox, Punk, The Cure, Fripp, Bowie, Eno, Depeche Mode …
on this solid british foundation, Giulio cultivates his side “soul”, rhythmic, James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire, George Benson, among others, as well as Latin music makes its way into his artistic training.
The first band was created in the middle of “New Wave”, the sounds are those of the electronic music avant-garde melted in rock-based harmonies that were well far away from blues scales of any type. It was 1980s, the years of the Executive, the reference single is “Stop”.
The next year, thanks to a meeting with top-level musicians, a new band began its time, the “Madame Claude”, with which mature artistic expression born in previous years and in the traces refer to the artistic project “EliteClubHouse” , in which you could breathe the scent of the ‘New Wave’ that was pervading maturely the whole music scene – there were the years of Simple Minds and Talking Heads …
Family reasons lead to the transfer of Giulio in northeast Italy, where he met Flavio Zanier with whom there was a very fruitful artistic affinity which leads to a very interesting series of tracks that culminate in the engraving of “Wait” elegant piece embodying the dance of the 80s, with a very groove ABC, or Madonna (with Ariella Perentin on vocals).
Various reasons, make that collaboration with Flavio is interrupted … and Giulio started working with Guido Carrara, with whom he had an excellent rapport.
Some time later, Giulio abandoned the music, completely… he says these words looking out of the window… he’s hurting for some reasons…
“… Life requires different times of growth at unpredictable times,” said Giulio … “… But if one loves music, he can not hide this love … it’s like trying to hold a piece of cork under water … just let it go, he will return to the surface… faster than a rocket…!” .
And that is what has happened: Giulio states that it is impossible for him to stop making music …
The meeting with Timothy Dacosta, multi-talented Long Island NY artist, contributed to the maturation of taste and harmonic organization and progression of created tracks .
In addition, the fusion of cultures and creativity so profoundly different results in extreme versatility of style, in the sense that it is possible to find traces of rock, near tracks or Latin dance, or pop … in my opinion, this is a quality, not a defect …
